The Ultimate Disney Parks Scavenger Hunt

Volume II: Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

by Shelby Pickett | Release Date: January 12, 2015 | Availability: Print, Kindle

Your Hands-on Guide to the Magic

Walt Disney believed that the best way to educate was through entertainment—or possibly a scavenger hunt. Learn the history of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, unlock its mysteries, become the resident Disney guru, as you track down trivia in the most magical place on earth.

Does a book need operating instructions? This one does. Don't read the book. If you do, it'll be the shortest book you've ever read. Use the book. Take it with you to Magic Kingdom. Each of the 120 trivia questions is its own quickie scavenger hunt. That's enough scavenger hunts for many trips to Magic Kingdom. The fun is in the hunt!

Your quest will take you to every land in the park, aboard rides, in restaurants and shops, and all points in between. Just don't tell your friends. Next time you're in Magic Kingdom with them, and casually mention when the next horse auction on Main Street is scheduled, or the park hours that Disney considers "indecent", they'll think you're a VIP Tour Guide.

DON'T LET THE KINGDOM KEEP ITS SECRETS!

Shelby Pickett

Shelby Pickett’s love of Disney began at a very young age and has developed into a lifelong passion. Based in Celebration, Florida, Shelby is known and respected throughout the Disney community for his extensive knowledge of the theme parks and for his articles on various Disney-based sites. He is an avid visitor to the parks, averaging 5–6 visits per week. He is also an avid collector of Disney memorabilia and president of the Official Bob Gurr Fan Club.

The dozens of scavenger hunts in the book will take you far and wide across Magic Kingdom property in search of answers to questions such as these:

  • According to the party line in the Chapeau Shop, how much is steak worth?
  • How many megavolts are the C-cell natteries that “power” the signage at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin?
  • How many painted scenes from Cinderella can be found on Prince Charming’s Regal Carrousel?
  • According to a sheet of music found in the Fantasy Fare gift shop, to what song is Mickey conducting the orchestra?
  • What is the name of Storybook Circus’ fire department?
  • What president’s top hat can be found inside the Hall of Presidents?
  • According to a crate located near the Rivers of America, what is S. L. Clemens’ address?
  • Br’er Fox and Br’er Bear can be pressed into pennies near the Laughing Place. What other Splash Mountain character can be pressed?
  • In Pirates of the Caribbean, what is the name of the ship caught in a cannon fight?
  • According to the Crew Mess Lunch Menu, what is served that is “Chicken-esque?

In addition to the scavenger hunts, the book also features "fun facts" about lesser-known Magic Kingdom lore.

  • Cinderella Castle stands 189 feet tall. It was constructed this way to be under 190 feet tall, the height at which a flashing light would have been required on the top.
  • The cherubs painted on the ceiling of the Grand Ballroom at Be Our Guest feature faces of the children of those Imagineers who worked on the project.
  • Each of the female cast members at the Haunted Mansion wears a headband with a bat on it. The bats have names. If you ask, they will tell you the name.
  • You will find various doors in Liberty Square with numbers next to them. If you put 18 in front of the address number that will be the year that type of door was used.
  • In Pirates of the Caribbean, there is a pirate whose foot is hanging over the wall. Look closely and you will notice it is the face of comic Sid Caesar. One of the Imagineers was fond of Sid and put him in the attraction.

We're always in the market for new authors with great ideas. Or great authors with new ideas. Whichever type of author you are, we'd be happy to discuss your book. Before you contact us, however, please make sure you can answer "yes" to these threshold questions:

Is It Right for Us?

We specialize in books that have some connection to Disney or theme parks. Disney, of course, has become a broad topic, and encompasses not just theme parks and films but comic books, animation, and a big chunk of pop culture. Your book should fit into one (or more) of those broad categories.

Is It Going to Make Money?

There's never a guarantee that any book will make money, but certain types of books are less likely to do so than others. They include: hardcovers, books with color photos, and books that go on forever ("forever" as in 400+ pages). We won't automatically turn down these types of books, but you'll have to be a really good salesman to convince us.

Are You Great to Work With?

Writing books and publishing books should be fun. The last thing you want, and the last thing we want, is a contentious relationship. We work with authors who share our philosophy of no drama and zero attitude, and the desire for a respectful, realistic, mutually beneficial partnership.
